COUSINS from Llanidloes have been making a splash at the Welsh Summer Nationals swimming championships.

Amber Owen, 16, won five golds in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke and a bronze in the 200 Individual Medley at the event held at the Welsh National 50m pool in Swansea.

Her cousin Harry Turner, also 16, won two golds in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

Amber, representing Nofio Sir Gâr, overtook two swimmers in the last 15m to win the 100m freestyle and won the 200m event emphatically by eight seconds.

Harry, who swims for Newtown won the 100m backstroke at just 60 seconds beating 19 and 22-year-olds.

This summer Amber is moving clubs to join The City of Cardiff Swimming Club to increase her hours in the swimming pool.

She will be living and studying in Cardiff.

Currently she has only managed eight hours training each week because of all the travelling between home in Llanidloes, school in Penglais, Aberystwyth and training in Carmarthen.Harry will continue to study and swim at Mount Kelly College, Devon.

Gemma Price, 19, also from Llanidloes, won a bronze in the 50m breaststroke in the 17 and over category.

She also recorded personal bests in 100m and 200m freestyle.She is currently swimming with City of Gloucester Swimming Club whilst at university.
