LLYN schools have taken part in a ‘Diwrnod Hoffi’r Parêd’ (Like the Parade Day) by wearing red, white or green clothes and raising money for the fifth Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli that will be held on Saturday, 3 March at 11am.

“As a school we are delighted to participate in the Diwrnod Hoffi’r Parêd,” said Ysgol Pentreuchaf headteacher Gethin Thomas.

“We strongly believe in giving our children strong roots in their identities and wings that can enable them to fly, and nurturing pride in Welshness is an important part of their education.

“We are also looking forward to participating in the parade and to seeing one of our past pupils, Iestyn Tyne, performing on the Maes stage with Dewi Pws and Gwilym Bowen Rhys in March.”

Menai Jones, headteacher at Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli added: “We are proud to participate in a day like this to raise money and awareness about the parade.

“The aims of the parade and the aims and objectives of Siarter Iaith Gwynedd coincide with one another, and the school’s Language Council was happy to give support.”

The theme for this year’s parade will be Celebrating Welshness.

Wales’ children’s poet Casia Wiliam and Osian Rhys Jones, the winning bard at the 2107 Ynys Môn National Eisteddfod, will carry the large flags at the front of the parade.

They will also present the Gwobrau Sêr Dewi Sant oscars for the best costumes on the day.

Children who participate in the parade will receive stickers, balloons and red, white and green masks.

The parade will finish on the Maes and will be hosted by Morgan Jones from Trefor.

Dewi Pws, Iestyn Tyne, and Gwilym Bowen Rhys will perform Cân y Parêd (Parade’s Song) with local school children.

At this year’s parade there will be horses, tractors, Band Chwythbrennau Pwllheli, Batala Bangor, Magi Ann and much more.

The committee would like to invite all local carnival groups, sport teams, young farmers’ clubs, choirs, local societies, primary and secondary schools and tertiary colleges to participate in the parade with their banners.

There will be a shop window competition in Pwllheli on the Celebrating Welshness theme, and this year Hunaniaith will present a special plaque to the winning shop and £50. Windows to be ready by 23 February.

The Wythnos Tapas Llyn week (which is a local Welsh tapas created with local ingredients and a Welsh name to the dish) will be held between 24 February and 3 March at the following venues: Caffi Meinir, Nant Gwrtheyrn; Gwesty Ty Newydd, Aberdaron; Plas Glyn y Weddw, Llanbedrog; Whitehall, Glasu, Tonnau and Taro Deg, Pwllheli.

Pwllheli Library will be holding a craft session between 3pm and 4pm pm, on Friday, 2 March
