NUCLEAR submarine plans found hidden in the lining of a suitcase by charity shop workers are to go up for auction - with interest from as far afield as Russia and the USA.

The town’s Barnardo’s shop came into possession of the plans around two years ago, but it wasn’t until recently that they gained international attention, with the shop’s manager, Stella Parker, receiving calls from all over the world.

The plans, which were found inside the lining of a book-filled suitcase which was donated anonymously, detail the Royal Navy’s former £200m Trafalgar nuclear submarine, which was launched in 1981 and decommissioned after almost 30 years of service in 2009.

Ms Parker said she was told the six-foot plans were only worth around £40 when she took them to David Dickinson’s Real Deal when the show visited the town two years ago.

“I came away and put them on the shelf of my office, where they have been for the last two years,” she said.

“I think the original owner must have put them in the lining for safe keeping.”
