Madam,
Following my letter to you about the loss of matron in hospital, with managers in their place, it has now come to my attention that there were 21 beds being occupied at Tywyn Hospital before the new hospital was completed, but now there are only 10 beds.
We know there are recruitment difficulties with staffing the wards.
To add to this, we read in the Cambrian News of Hywel Dda’s “strategic aim” of wishing to reduce further the number of beds at Bronglais.
There are also concerns about funding of the new chemo unit, as well as the fact that dementia patients are to be moved in with surgical and/or medical patients.
This news does nothing for our confidence in the management in Hywel Dda Health Board.
All of us will have minds set on pondering how arrangements will be settled for patients needing beds, or alternatively those needing care packages in place. What will families/carers be told and how can all this be in progress when this whole area of need is growing? Furthermore, we here are aware of Bronglais being our nearest hospital? How are we to be reassured and from which source?
The bottom line is undoubtedly finance. Doesn’t every issue/difficulty end with the bottom line being finance? We know there is money. How otherwise can we send £1 billion to EU coffers every month or support the Lords with £300 each, for attending the House?
We just long to see a much better sharing of the said money.
Yours etc, Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn.
