A WHEELCHAIR user from the Ffestiniog area is fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a racing car driver.

Brian Roberts from Tanygrisiau was involved in a motorbike accident when he was just 19 years old and, as a result of serious injuries, has been confined to a wheelchair ever since.

However, this has not stopped him from taking part in some of the most daring and exciting events available — including breaking the world record for downhill descent at Antur Stiniog in June and climbing Snowdon just weeks later.

The talented kart racer will be taking part in the Race of Remembrance at Anglesey Racetrack, and is set to make his debut in a Volkswagen Cup Golf GTI R race car.

The event is a 1,000km endurance race which will be run partly at night, and the entire event will be televised live on Motors TV.

Brian is delighted to be making his debut in front of the TV cameras.

He said: “I am thrilled to be making my debut on home turf.

“The Anglesey Racetrack is a superb circuit and I can’t wait to get out there and see what I can do.”

Brian will be competing as part of a team of four. His team mates are Porsche racer Natalie McGloin, VW Cup Championship regular Simon Andrews and motorbike racer Talan Skeet-Piggins.

Their team is called Spinal Track, so named because all team members are wheelchair bound.
