Madam,

In response to the front-page article last week ‘Father’s Day cemetery upset’, I would like to highlight a few things that I do on a more than annual basis without any thought and certainly no need to complain.

My father is buried at a certain cemetery outside Aberystwyth along with my grandmother, grandfather, their parents and many uncles.

When I visit I come prepared with secateurs, garden shears, vessels to hold water and a cloth, along with the obligatory flowers.

There are certain times of the year when the grass is long, so I cut it.

There are also times when the grass has been cut and I appreciate the work that someone has done to keep my ancestors resting place cared for and respectable. Sometimes the headstones look uncared for due to weather and nature, so I clean them.

I do not know who pays for the grounds person in the aforementioned church because I now attend a different chapel in Aberystwyth town. I would just like to point out that any service to do with a chapel or church, whether it be the actual building or the cemetery, requires continual funding and if that funding is not forthcoming then surely there can be no room for complaint.

Yours etc, Sian Elin Richards, Cefn Esgair, Aberystwyth.
