Madam,

Your article, ‘Health boards blasted for failing to stick to budgets’ makes for interesting reading.

Who has been held to account where both Betsi Cadwaladr and Hywel Dda health boards have failed to stick to their budgets for 2018/19?

We are told that both have “faced a string of problems in meeting their budgets in recent years”, but no details are given. Who will meet the shortfall following the failings?

It is all complicated, but at the end of the reckonings and discussion are the patients, many of whom will be the taxpayers, too. Patients no doubt waiting for appointment dates and those on waiting lists following delays for planned surgery.

Everything the article outlines giving rise to worries and problems at present, but also seeds having been sown for the future hardly giving any assurances. Where do the solutions lie?

Many will find it galling if those in senior management positions, on both boards, have their names listed next time around for high honours, particularly when all the existing financial challenges have not been addressed, or satisfactorily settled.

Yours etc, Jill Baxter, Abergynolwyn, Tywyn.
