Madam,
In 2016 the Cambrian News had to use the Freedom of Information Act to reveal that Ceredigion County Council had paid PricewaterhouseCoopers £1,988,212 then a further £93,630 for advice on where to make cuts to public services. The company received a percentage of any savings made. There were calls for Cllr Alun Williams to resign after it was revealed that some of the recommendations were scrapped, but commission still had to be paid.
Can you imagine what will happen if the Tories’ proposals regarding payment for elderly care are implemented? The same private companies and vested interests will benefit when pensioners’ homes, which they have worked hard for in the hope of passing on something to their children, are sold to pay for the ever-increasing cost of their care.
Theresa May has a home London and a home in Berkshire. Twenty-three of the 29 members of the Tory Cabinet are millionaires. When John MacDonnell asked Damien Green how much he had made on his shares when water companies were privatised, he conveniently couldn’t remember. No worries there about paying for care in old age or passing on a substantial inheritance!
We can’t rely on the Tories to protect pensioners’ interests.
Yours etc,
Barry Giddings, Ystumtuen, Aberystwyth.
