Madam,

I am writing with a question aimed for Ceredigion County Council.

If they are selling off schools which are no longer used, why don’t they purchase one of the many town houses for sale to use as a second night shelter for homeless people with some of the money?

If anyone drives around town at night or even in the day time they will see a growing number of homeless people trying to take shelter in this freezing weather.

I saw a homeless man shaking out his soaked sleeping bag in the doorway of the former Claire’s Accessories in Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth at lunchtime.

I phoned the council and was passed to three different people, I was eventually told they have nothing to do with the night shelter.

When I phoned the night shelter I was told they are always full up!

Doesn’t that tell you the homeless situation needs addressing urgently?

Come on council, sort this out.

These fellow human beings are literally on our doorstep and there is no warm bed for them to sleep in while the council is selling off properties.

It’s a disgrace.

Yours etc, N Richards, Llanilar.
