Madam,

At a time when media reports are appearing daily about environmental damage, loss of habitat, and a decline in native species, especially pollinating insects, why has Gwynedd Council undertaken to spray the verges and walls throughout many villages with herbicide?

On a recent journey from Dolgellau to Harlech, I was appalled to see the clear evidence of widespread spraying. Where there were once wild flowers and walls covered in ivy, lichens and mosses, there is now only brown and poisoned remnants. Was any consideration given to the impact of such activity on the environment and humans alike?

Glyphosate weed killer has been linked to cancer in humans, illness and death of pets and the decline in insects, so to use it in such a fashion I believe shows a cavalier and arrogant attitude on the part of Gwynedd Council.

Yours etc, M Reeves, Barmouth.
