Madam,
I, along with many others I suspect, received a threatening letter two weeks ago from Gwynedd Council regarding non-payment of my August Council Tax installment. This payment had left my bank on time on 1 August.
I waited for some 15 minutes in a queuing system on their contact number to receive the rather feeble explanation that due to staff shortage the entries into their record system had only been made the day before - apparently the same day the letters were sent out from an address in Ellesmere Port. There was no apology.
Perhaps the time has come for the grossly overpaid chief executive to perform a few meaningful tasks. Firstly he should read the standard letters that are sent out and then modify the tone thereof.
He should also ensure that no such letters are sent out without double-checking whether they are necessary. He should arrange for the recipients of such letters to receive an apology.
Also, he should examine why it is that the process of debt-chasing in this manner is conducted by a company apparently based in England.
As is apparent in my case, this has sparked anger, but imagine the distress caused in other folk.
Yours etc, Name and address supplied.
