Madam,
Re Bodlondeb home in Penparcau, Aberystwyth. Why is the future of this home still not resolved, two and a half years after a public consultation was carried out?
I understand there is to be a county council meeting on this on Friday, 16 June at Min y Mor offices in Aberaeron. We, the public, can be present and if you wish to contribute you can be allocated five minutes, but you have to arrange this in advance by ringing the contact centre on 01545 574000.
Who is responsible for the delay over Bodlondeb? Will the final decision on the home’s future be taken by the 42 county councillors or just the eight Cabinet members?
The consultation noted that many more people will require support in the future.
The number of people aged over 85 has shown the fastest population increase - doubling since 1983. They are projected to represent 31 per cent of the total Welsh adult population by 2020.
In Ceredigion we are forecasting an increase - between 2013 and 2025 - from 2,240 to 3,280 of individuals aged 85 and over. And numbers aged 65 and over are projected to increase from 16,830 to 20,250.
Current estimates suggest that half of men and a third of all women will need support through social services as they get older.
On this assumption, care home accommodation has to be increased, along with the provision of dementia nursing care homes.
Yours etc,
Dai Thomas, Llwyn yr Eos, Southgate, Aberystwyth.
