Madam,

I was interested to read the account of the meeting at Fairbourne with our Assembly Member, Eluned Morgan, the Labour parliamentary candidate, Graham Hogg and local residents.

During that meeting Ms Morgan made it clear that the issue of climate change affecting Fairbourne was a matter for the Westminster government not just Gwynedd Council or the Welsh Assembly.

I think the people of Fairbourne must contrast their fate with the awful situation at Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, where 1,600 people have been evacuated from their homes. The Prime Minister has arrived with a promise of complete rebuilding of the dam at a cost of millions. Quite right!

But Fairbourne residents must be asking why they are not getting the same commitment.

Yours etc, Roger H Duke, Friog.
