A LLANDECWYN woman has raised over £2,000 for a local wildlife group by taking part in a fun run.
Glynis Archer is a volunteer for wildlife group Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife (BGGW), near Porthmadog and she offered to enter the 5km run in the annual Porthmadog Ras y Cob on 18 September to raise funds for the group.
Sponsorship for Glynis’ run came from all over the world, including USA, Australia, Germany and elsewhere.
Over £2,000 had been donated when the appeal closed at midnight on Sunday, 25 September.
Many of the contributions came from supporters who watch the osprey nest via an online livestream.
Vivien Finn, fund-raising director for BGGW, said: “It isn’t just about the money. It’s all the lovely cards and messages of support we’ve received for Glynis and for the project.”
The Glaslyn ospreys have now left for their wintering grounds – and waters – in west Africa. In the spring and summer, they can be seen from the Cob hunting for fish over the estuary.
Donations to the BGGW can still be made via their website at www.glaslynwildlife.co.uk
