While I totally support the refurbishment of Barmouth Bridge and the reasons for it, I do have a few comments.
As a retired engineer, I do wonder if I will ever see the completed project, based on the total lack of experience in predicting how long these projects take. From a small house building extension to large contracts like Crossrail in London, nobody ever finishes on time. For example, the railway bridge over the Dysynni north of Tywyn was initially six months with the proviso for an extension, but it is now been 18 months with no sign of the scaffold coming down. Despite Covid restrictions on working practices, that is some extension. Bill Kelly of Network Rail stated in your paper that Barmouth Bridge is a three-year project, so, if I am still here and fit enough to stroll across the bridge in October 2023 I will buy him a bottle of the amber nectar, but I am not going to hold my breath.
