The winners of Aberystwyth’s sixth photomarathon have been announced at a special awards ceremony.
The photographic contest took place on Saturday, 22 October, and saw close to 70 competitors roaming the streets of Aberystwyth, armed with a camera or mobile phone, looking for a creative angle and some different ideas to interpret the different themes.
Organised by FfotoAber, and supported by Aberystwyth Business Club, Cambrian Printers and Aberystwyth Town Council, the annual event tests the photographic skills of competitors in a race against time.
The challenge for participants is to take six photographs on six themes in six hours.
The themes, two of which were released every two hours from 10am were: The other side, 4, Raw, Pattern, Collection, and Blue.
Returning as one of the judges was Jonny Morris from the Telegraph group, and he was joined by professional photographer Betsan Evans, along with Aberystwyth Business Club member Aled Rees.
In a ceremony held at Morlan Centre on Sunday evening, 23 October, the participants and their supporters learnt who took the winning photographs, and were able to view all the images, over 400 of them, taken during the photomarathon.
Tony Hicklin was announced as the winner for the best collection in the ‘camera with removable lenses’ category, while Llio James took the prize for the best set taken by fixed-lens camera. Kiera Ellis took the prize for the best collection for the category 16 years and under, and Charlotte Rigg won for best collection taken on a mobile phone.
The winners for the best photograph for each theme were Samantha Rigg (The other side), Tony Hicklin (4), Tegwen Morris (Raw), Siwan Fflur (Pattern), Wendy Phillips (Collection) and Kaloyan Cholakov (Blue).
The judges also decided to give a special prize for a set of photos taken by Lynne Blanchfield that they felt represented Aberystwyth.
All images taken are exhibited at Morlan until 11 November.
