ABERYSTWYTH Photomarathon returned for its fifth year last month, with more than 60 entrants roaming the streets of the town looking for the perfect shot.

At an awards ceremony, the winners of the FfotoAber Photomarathon 2015 were announced after entrants took six photographs on six themes in six hours on Saturday, 24 October.

Giles Bennett was announced as the winner for best collection in the camera with removable lenses category while Andrew Currie took the prize for best set taken by fixed-lens camera. Caleb Lewis Price won in the best collection for the category 16 years and under, for the second year running, and Helen Sharma won for best collection taken on a mobile phone.

Supported by Aberystwyth Business Club, Cambrian Printers and Aberystwyth Town Council the Photomarathon tested the photographic skills of competitors in a race against time, with photographs being judged by Jonny Morris from the Telegraph group, former UK press photographer of the year Glenn Edwards, and Aberystwyth Business Club member Rhiannon Rees.

The themes, two of which were released every two hours from 10am were ‘hiding’, ‘excitement’, ‘face to face’, ‘seven’, ‘boxes’ and ‘yellow’.

Rhiannon Rees of Aberystwyth Business Club said: “The business club has been a supporter of the photomarathon from the beginning, and it continues to be a magnificent event to be involved with.

“Being a judge is quite a challenge though, as there are so many images and all competitors naturally interpret the themes in their own individual way.

“Don’t miss the exhibition at Morlan — it’s worth seeing.”

David Lowe of Cambrian Printers said: “It’s all hands on deck on the Saturday evening as we receive the downloaded pictures — close to 400 images — around 6pm which need to be printed by 10pm for hanging the following day.

“As a local business rooted in the area, we are only too pleased to support such an event and look forward to continuing to work with FfotoAber in future.”

Deian Creunant from FfotoAber added: “It’s a challenging discipline taking six images in six hours on six themes but the enthusiasm of the competitors is great.

“The final exhibition tells its own story — nearly 400 pictures capturing the story of the day.

“Don’t miss the exhibition in Morlan — and look out for the pictures appearing in Aberystwyth shop windows as well in the coming weeks.”

All images taken are exhibited at Morlan until 6 November.
