Work is set to restart on the new Bow Street railway station.
Construction work on the £8 million project was suspended when the coronavirus crisis hit, but Transport for Wales has announced that work will restart on the site from Monday, 4 May.
Workers will concentrate on earthworks on site and roadworks nearby, with the introduction of a new slipway on the opposite side of the road.
Local councillor Paul Hinge welcomed the news, saying: “It is pleasing to hear that they are looking at how they can safely carry out the work and have decided to resume on Monday, 4 May.
“It is thought that the interchange site will officially open in November but the railway station could be operational before then.”
In a letter to Cllr Hinge, Transport for Wales said: “After reviewing revised working procedures with our delivery partner Alun Griffiths, in the best interest of the public, works on site at Bow Street are able to continue safely in line with government guidelines.
“From 4 May, our primary focus will be the major earthworks remediation, as planned.
“Operations on site have been modified as per advice given by the Construction Leadership Council: social distancing, enhanced PPE, what to do if someone falls ill, travel to site, hand washing, changing facilities, cleaning and awareness of the public, along with all expected safety measures and practices which would be in place normally.
“The safety of our workforce, travelling public and line-side neighbours is paramount; we will continue to monitor this developing situation and reflect this across our construction sites, to include Bow Street Station.”
The £8m railway interchange project is being funded by the Welsh Government and the Department for Transport, and will include a park and ride, cycle storage and a transport interchange.
The scheme is being delivered by TfW, Network Rail and Ceredigion County Council.
Concerns had been raised over the road layout near the new station site, but a new slip road is to be introduced on the opposite side of the road in a bid to alleviate concerns.
Bow Street is also in line to get new trains and an hourly weekday service from 2022, and other stations along the line will benefit from investment as part of TfWs £194 million Station Improvement Vision.
