CONSTRUCTION of Tywyn’s controversial new solar farm could begin this month.
Once the build begins it may be completed within only six weeks.
The renewable energy farm, located near Sandilands farm, has received planning permission from Gwynedd Council and Novus Energy are looking for a window of suitable weather to start laying foundations for the project.
Ed Jessamine, director of the energy firm responsible for the project, spoke to the Tywyn Town Council in a meeting at the end of last year and promised to remain in contact with the council throughout the building process.
Mr Jessamine was keen to point out that whilst construction was taking place the field would look “messy” but that the field should reseed itself by the summer season.
He also mentioned that the time lines were “fluid” and that weather would more than likely affect project deadlines.
However, Mr Jessamine assured the town councillors work would be completed by September next year when the 2016 International Sheepdog Trials come to the town.
The 12-acre project could potentially benefit the town council financially by approximately £4,000 a year — the council will not have to pay towards the projects’ installation costs.
At capacity the farm should provide more than 750 homes with electricity.
