EXCITING plans for a new playground in Machynlleth are a step closer after play equipment was ordered – with hopes that work will start on the new facility at the end of October.

Some of the items being installed include an inclusive roundabout, a trampoline, a zip wire and the usual swings and climbing apparatus

Future Play Machynlleth has been working to provide a new playground for the town that is accessible to all children. The group is also hoping to add to the facilities over time as part of the “ongoing project”.

Danielle Armstrong, of Future Play Machynlleth, said the new facility will be open by Christmas, with more work due to take place to ensure that by spring 2019 the town will have a top-quality play area.

She said: “We haven’t got an exact date for commencing works yet, but have been told to expect at least a six-week wait, so we are hoping to start around the end of October.

“Building won’t take too long, around four weeks. The playground will definitely be in by Christmas. We know it isn’t an ideal time of year to enjoy a playground but it gives us time to further improve the area.

“We will be installing around 13 new pieces of play equipment to replace the seven that are currently there, as well as replacing all the wet-pour and returfing some areas.

“It is a big and exciting project and we can’t wait for the children to see it.”

Future Play Machynlleth would welcome contact from anyone who could help with fundraising or donating.
