A Capel Bangor father will attempt to break a world record to raise money for Wales Air Amulance in memory of his five-year-old son who was tragically killed in a car crash in 2016.
Bleddyn Jones, 51, will undertake a 24-hour solo row on a rowing machine in December – attempting to break the world indoor record for his age group – to raise funds for the crews who battled to save the life of his son Ned following a car crash on the A470 near Rhayader, on Good Friday two years ago.
Ned’s mother, Sharon, is originally from Dolgellau.
Bleddyn, who played rugby for Aberystwyth for around 18 years will be aiming to row for more than 280km.
He now rows for Aberystwyth Rowing Club and regularly competes in indoor rowing competitions.
“Our little boy Ned was killed in a road traffic accident which was attended by two Wales Air Ambulance helicopters, with one crew trying to save the life of our boy,” Bleddyn said. “But despite battling courageously, Ned died at the scene.
“Ned was a very happy boy, finding joy in everything and anything.
“His death has left us devastated and has changed our lives forever.
“Now most days are a struggle for both me and my wife, and young family. I can’t look at photos of Ned without crying and find it difficult to talk about him.
“We however want to keep the memory of Ned alive and remember him how he was in his very short life."
