Madam,
Re: Bruce McCay’s letter (‘Was it the same Edward Breese I served with?’), indeed Lt Edward Leslie (Les) Breeze was the very same man Mr McCay served with in those difficult days just after the war and before the Berlin airlift.
Sadly Dr Les Breeze, as he was to become after the war, is no longer with us, but his wife is still alive and lives in Llandre.
Another RWF man Mr McCay might remember alongside Dr Breeze was my wife’s uncle, Bryn Rowlands, who also is no longer with us.
He was badly wounded in the battle for Evercy in Normandy and when recovered went on to be part of the battle group that recaptured the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
Bryn was very active with the ACF both in Aberystwyth and Machynlleth (under the RWF cap badge) and he and Dr Breeze remained great friends until they both passed on to that Great Parade Ground above, both working as they did at the Welsh Plant Breeding Station now known as IBERS.
Yours etc, Paul Hinge, RWFCA Aberystwyth Branch.
