A LLYN surfer who lost his leg as a teenager, is now the number one surfer in his class in the UK, following a successful competition in America.
Llywelyn Williams, from Bwlchtocyn, near Abersoch, was told his right leg would need to be amputated in 2011 after he was run over by a car.
The young surfer who was just 16-years-old at the time of the accident, suffered multiple injuries which included a broken femur, both hips dislocated, shattered pelvis, punctured lung and a split liver.
Following being released from hospital the 21-year-old vowed to get back into his passion, which is surfing.
He received huge support from his local community, especially from Phillip Wood from Abersoch Watersports who arranged for his first custom wetsuit and a soft top board to help him get back into the water.
In the last few years, the young surfer has been involved in several competitions around the world and most recently took part in the International Surfing Academy (ISA) World Adaptive Surfing Championships in California.
This was the first time a Welsh team had competed in the competition, which included Benjamin Clifford as team manager; Toby Williams as team coach and Llywelyn who competed in the AS2 Stand-Kneel division.
He finished fifth in the world in the competition which makes him the number one surfer in the UK in the AS-2 class, which makes him the number one.
