Haverfordwest Seconds (222 for 3) beat Llechryd (220 for 5) by 7 wickets

THERE were runs aplenty at the Racecourse as a knock of 93 not out from Ross Dewstowe helped Haverfordwest chase down Llechryd’s total of 220 for 5.

John Curran notched an unbeaten century for the visitors, but the match went through to 7.30pm as Haverfordwest kept focus to secure a seven-wicket success.

Curran came in at number three and finished on 100 not out, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes as he brought up his ton in the final over of the innings. Kevin Evans also scored 34 runs and Dewi Davies was well set on 51, before being forced to retire hurt, as Llechryd posted a total of 222 for 5, with Chris Phillips (3 for 35) and Clive Tucker (1 for 39) the best home bowlers.

Evan Watts (29) and skipper Phillips (36) got the Haverfordwest reply off to a positive start, but they were standing at 92 for 3 as veteran Pete Betterley (1 for 50), Rhys Beard (1 for 23) and Michael Godfrey (1 for 37) claimed the wickets for Llechryd.

An unbroken stand of 130 runs between Dewstowe and Nigel Morgan saw the former cracking 13 fours and three sixes to finish just seven runs short of what would have been a deserved century.

Morgan meanwhile made 41 not out, with five fours and a six, as the Town triumphed, still with 13 balls to spare.

• Llechryd Seconds won by 48 runs in the Pembrokeshire division three, after posting a total of 183 all out, before dismissing Narberth Seconds for 135 all out.

Ollie Roberts led the way with 74 for Llechryd, backed up by solid knocks from Tomos Davies (40) and Peter Gregory (35), with wickets falling to Richard Howell (3 for 21) and Nathan Lloyd (3 for 43).

Chris Spratt led the reply with a good innings of 71, with support coming from A Williams (30), but the Narberth wickets fell to Peter Gregory (3 for 27), Nic North (3 for 23) and Scott Thomas (2 for 35).
