JASON Underwood was in sublime form for Pwllheli as his magnificent unbeaten century set up an emphatic 293-run victory over Carmel and District in the North Wales League division one.
The South African all-rounder came in at number four and destroyed the visitors’ bowling by smashing 16 fours and 9 sixes in a superb knock of 158 not out.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first at Parc Bodegroes, Pwllheli’s opening duo of Craig Edwards and Chris Moore had put on 122 runs for the first wicket.
Edwards hit out with 6 fours and 2 sixes in his knock of 58 off 65 balls, before finally being bowled by Jack Whitehouse (1 for 63).
Moore also made a half century, as he struck 5 fours and 3 sixes on his way to 61 off 68 balls, before being caught behind by Dafydd Bailey, from the bowling of Nicholas White (1 for 67).
Morgan Murray-Williams, batting at three, and Jason Underwood picked up where the openers had left off as they moved the score on from 128 for 2 to 266.
Murray-Williams struck 4 boundaries on his way to 29, before he was run out by Gwion Dafydd, but Underwood then teamed up with SK Aslam to take the score on to 368 for 3 after 50 overs.
The hard-hitting Aslam hit 2 fours and 4 big sixes from the 23 balls he faced, and was just six runs short of his half century, on 44 not out, when the overs ran out.
Underwood was undefeated on 158 not out off 89 balls, with the visiting bowlers taking a real beating.
It was then the turn of the bowlers to shine, and all-rounder Murray-Williams took little time in dismissing opening bat Dafydd Bailey.
There was some resistance from Gwion Dafydd (14), Nicholas White (26) and Daniel Owens (13), but Carmel’s batsmen were all out for just 75 in the 30th over.
Murray-Williams finished with 3 wickets for 23 from 6 overs, Owen Reilly took 2 for 9 from 6 overs, and Keiran Roberts 2 for 2 from 2.3 overs. There were also wickets for Sean Reilly 1 for 28, Aslam 1 for 5, and star batsman Underwood 1 for 6 as Pwllheli won by 293 runs.
