LLECHRYD were forced to hang on for a losing draw at the RDM Oval after they were outplayed for much of the game by Burton in the Pembrokeshire League Division Two.

The visitors’ batsmen had got off to a decent start as Richard Jones (33), Luke Hayman (21), Jonathan Venables (23) and Morgan Scale (62 not out) steered their side to a healthy total of 183 for 5.

Scale was the pick of their scorers, with the big hitter crossing the ropes with five fours and clearing them once with a very big six.

James Henneker (2 for 20), Peter Betterley (2 for 44) and Ben Kiss (1 for 27) were the pick of the bowling attack.

In reply, Llechryd had made a poor start with opener Andrew Davies going early, but in-form batsman Ollie Roberts, who made a 50 a couple of weeks ago, looked set for a similar score until he went on 20, at a key time in the innings.

Others followed without really troubling the scorers, with all rounder Leighton O’Connor, Jonny Lewis and Mike Carter all out cheaply.

Regular second team opener Dewi Davies, batting at eight for the first team, made steady progress with 22, as did Tomos Davies who hit 21, but Llechryd finished on a total of 136 for 7.

Experienced medium pace bowler Steve Jones ripped through the middle order with 4 wickets for 28 and another to impress was Johnny Scale who took 2 for 16.

With the hosts fast running out of options they batted out the remaining overs to finish with a losing draw.

• A superb half century by Jack Davies and a useful 36 from Ben Graham helped steer Llechryd Seconds to a four wicket win over St Ishmaels Seconds in Pembrokeshire League division four.

Tish were well served by Steve Hastings (43) and Darren Hawkings (32) in a total of 181 for 8, but they had to work hard against Andrew Flectcher (3 for 24) and Mal McHugh (3 for 31).

Fletcher also impressed with the bat as he hit 27 not out, whilst Jack Davies claimed 8 boundaries in a match-winning knock of 56. Kevin Bowen (2 for 34) was the best of the Tish bowlers.

• Third-placed Crymych had to settle for a losing draw against Hook Seconds, despite another cracking innings from prolific run getter Richard Thorne, who would have notched a well-deserved century had he not run out of batting partners.

Thorne, who has already hit three figures this term, was left high and dry on 77 not out, as his team hung on for a draw at 152 for 9, when chasing 193 for victory.

Hook’s David Petrie made 67 not out, Lloyd Greyshon 28, Morgan Hughes 25 and Chris Holder 22 to steer their team to 192 for 9. Ioan Davies took 5 wickets for 11 and Rhodri Lewis 2 for 44.

Thorne, with 77 not out, was the star of the show with the bat, but the Crymych innings stuttered, despite the efforts of James George (24).

David Petrie with 3 wickets for 25 and Chris Holder with 2 for 18 were the pick of the Hook bowlers as Crymych finished on 152 for 9.
