Saundersfoot (138 for 3 & 153 for 5) beat Llechryd (108 for 8 & 86 all out) by 97 runs
THE eagerly-awaited Alan Brown Cup Final clash between Llechryd and Saundersfoot at Whitland was a one-sided affair, with the North Pembrokeshire outfit eventually going down by 97 runs.
Llechryd, who head their rivals in division three of the Pembrokeshire League, were no match for their opponents on this occasion, and they were ultimately beaten over the two innings of 20 overs apiece .
The Teifisiders, who had got to the ultimate stage of this competition after beating Crymych and Pembroke Dock, were missing a few key players for this two innings showdown, and it showed as they were unable to score enough runs.
Saundersfoot posted 138 for 5 in their first innings, with Paul Mansbridge carrying his bat for 44 runs.He was well served by Sam Franklyn, who made 34, and John Mansbridge who finished on 23 not out.
In reply, Llechryd were always struggling with the bat, and had it not been for inspirational captain John Curran, who made a decent half century, it could well have been over as a contest at half time.
The Teifisiders managed to just about stay in touch with their opponents’ score when they ended on 108 for 8, with Tom Mansbridge doing the damage with 4 for 20, with his brother John taking 2 for 14.
Saundersfoot quickly added to their 30 run advantage in the second innings when Paul Mansbridge set about the Llechryd bowlers, and he moved swiftly on to 34.
Franklyn chipped in with another important score, and he also made 34 as his team reached 153 for 5, leaving Llechryd with a huge amount of work to do.
Curran and his men needed 184 to win at a rate of 9.2 an over, which was a daunting task - and realistically it was not going to happen against an in-form team .
Once skipper Curran was out for 15, there was very little resistance, apart from Rhys Beard, who contributed 20 runs.
Llechryd were all out for 86 and well short of the winning total. Tom Mansbridge shone with the ball as he took 2 for 17 and Danny Caine also took 3 for 17.
