LLECHRYD increased their lead at the top of the Pembrokeshire League division three as they cruised to an emphatic 10-wicket victory over local rivals Crymych last weekend.

The Preseli men, who are without a win after eight starts, looked to be mounting a decent target at 30 for 2, but a huge collapse soon followed, and they were eventually skittled out for 49.

Richard Thorne made 18, and Rhodri Lewis 15, but all-rounder Mike Godfrey did most of the damage as he took 5 wickets for 11, and Mark Newell had 2 for 5.

Opening bowler Carwyn Davies struck early for Crymych when he dismissed opener Gwion Howells, but this was to be his team’s only wicket as experienced left-handed batsman Steve Smith steadied the ship.

Smith carried his bat for 25 not out as his team coasted to victory at 50-1 - in time to watch Wales beat Slovakia in the Euro Championships!

Carwyn Davies with 1 for 33 took the only wicket, and Ryan Harries also made 13.

In the Pembrokeshire division four, Llechryd Seconds missed out on victory as settled for a winning draw against Burton Seconds - but the 18 points collected has pushed them up the table.

The Castell Malgwyn team posted a good score of 219 for 5, with Andrew Davies making 58, Mark Jones 45 and Paul Beasley 39 runs.

Graham Morris returned 2 for 45, and Brian Griffiths 1 for 17 in the Burton attack.

The visitors though looked handily placed as they got close to the 200 mark with Andrew Cromwell hitting a superb 87 not out, but his team eventually ran out of overs and they finished on 195 for 5. Ian Battersley also made 39 runs for Burton, whilst Scott Thomas took 1 wicket for 20 for Llechryd.
