THERE was to be no joy in the warm summer sunshine for Tregaron as they lost by 88 runs in the West Wales Conference, when dismissed for 106 all out by Aberystwyth Seconds on Saturday.

Aber had earlier finished on 194 for 7, with key knocks from Anthony Burrell (58) and Tom Constantine (42), before Ioan Morris took 4 for 32 and Zaid Khan 3 for 21 to dismiss Tregaron well short.

Aber had an early blow when Dave Dowell was run out with just 8 on the baord, but Khan (23) and Burrell repaired the innings with an excellent stand of 46.

Tom Constantine then continued his fine form, hitting six boundaries as he and Burrell took the score to 104 off 20 overs, before Anthony Evans (20 not out), James Breeze (11) and Steffan Davies (10) kept the score ticking, to close on 195 for 7.

Dafydd Jenkins took 3 for 31, but Llyr Hughes, with an economical 9 overs for 23, was the pick of the Tregaron bowlers.

Tregaron started well, with a flurry of boundaries, before Khan removed Nigel Salmon on 8 with a fine swinging yorker.

Llyr Hughes looked in excellent form as he powered to 35 with a fine array of shots, before Khan had him caught by Dowell at mid-off from a mistimed drive, and finished with a return of 3 for 21.

Breeze was returning to the Aber line-up after a 16-year absence and his leg breaks caused problems for the batsmen, as he finished with 2 wickets for 13 runs.

Nathan Yates (19 not out) anchored the rest of the innings, but wickets fell to medium pacer Ioan Morris, who bowled a very good spell of six overs, for 4 for 32.

It was left to Tony Constantine (1 for 37) to finish the match off as Tregaron ultimately closed on 106 all out off 23 overs.
