ABERYSTWYTH Town are looking to maintain their momentum when they carry their six-match unbeaten run into their televised JD Cymru Premier clash with Bala Town at Park Avenue on Friday evening (ko 8pm).
The in-form Seasiders followed up their 3-0 quarter-final win at Carmarthen Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup in midweek with a superb 5-1 league success away at Airbus UK Broughton on the weekend.
Their third league win this season has closed the gap on sixth-placed Cardiff Met to five points, with nine matches still to go until the league is split.
Assistant manager Gavin Allen said he was delighted with the character of his side after they hit back from an early goal by the Wingmakers to seal a five-star triumph at the Airfield on Saturday.
“I thought the boys were brilliant, they played with tempo and pressed well, and at times they just couldn’t live with the way we were passing the ball,” said Allen. “I know the scoreline was 5-1, but with the amount of chances we missed as well, it could have been even more.”
The Seasiders had to be patient, before Paulo Mendes finally made the breakthrough on 43 minutes, followed by a Steve Tomasson own goal - and then a second goal by Mendes either side of the interval.
Late goals from Adam Hughes and Ryan Edwards capped well-deserved win for Matthew Bishop’s men, after notching four successive draws in the league.
“With the amount of chances that we were creating in the first half, we were expecting one to go in, and once the momentum started, we were brighter, sharper and caused them havoc,” said Allen.
“We needed three points today, we were unlucky not to get maximum points in the last couple of games, but at the end of the day we haven’t lost in October, and we are in the semi-finals of the Cup.
“Slowly we are gathering momentum, and if we can continue to play as we did today we can match anybody. At the moment, it is looking quite good for us.”
Club captain Marc Williams returned after suspension on Tuesday, and Aber also still have the experienced Stuart Jones and Luke Boundford to come back into the side.
The Seasiders face a fifth-placed Bala side that were 4-0 winners over Newtown on Friday, having also reached the semi-finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup, where they will take on Connah’s Quay.
In the other semi-final, Aber were drawn away to Welsh League outfit STM Sports, of Cardiff, who shocked Cymru Premier side Newtown with a penalty shoot-out win at Latham Park in midweek.
