LLANYSTUMDWY’s run in the FAW Trophy ended in a 4-0 fourth round defeat at Llangefni Town, who demonstrated why they are the Welsh Alliance division one’s current top placed team.
After earlier Trophy wins, both away, over Alliance division two opponents Felinheli and Meliden, Aled Jones’s squad had feared that they would be up against it in their third away test.
Iwan Jones opened the scoring for the hosts with a sweetly struck free kick from a very tight angle, but minutes later, Llanystumdwy nearly equalised, with Sion Parry going through on goal, but Cefni’s keeper Steve Sinclair pulled off a great save to keep the score at 1-0.
In the 32nd minute, Sean Pritchard extended the lead, with a great move between youngsters Cameron Jones, with Osian Jones eventually finding Pritchard to curl in the second from 18 yards.
Two goals from Matthew Jones in the second half ultimately made it a really comfortable afternoon for the Town.
Holders Chirk AAA moved into the fifth round with a 4-0 home win over Welsh League (Wrexham Area) division one team New Brighton Villa.
Chirk scored early on through Matty Thomas and when Matthew Woods increased their lead on the half hour it looked like the tie was already over.
Villa, however, came back well at Chirk and the impressive Kallum Pierce kept the Colliers’ defence busy with his darting runs which created two promising chances that went just off target.
The second half was well-balanced, but Chirk finally made the game safe late on with another from Woods and a penalty kick from Louie Middlehurst.
Pierce almost pulled back a consolation for Villa in the final minutes, but Chirk keeper Zac Bebbington pulled off a spectacular save to keep a clean sheet.
Meanwhile Sam Jones was a four-goal hero as Greenfield fought back from two goals down to register a 5-2 win away against rivals Mold Alexandra.
Two quick goals from Aled Reece saw Mold race into the lead with 30 minutes on the clock, but Greenfield began their fightback on 40 minutes when a precise through ball from Keiron Roberts found Sam Jones to fire into the bottom corner.
On the stroke of half time it was all square when Sam Jones got the deftest of touches to guide a Danny Calvert cross past Ben Jones in the Mold goal.
With the bit between their teeth, Greenfield’s second half performance was excellent and the hosts struggled to cope with their high tempo and desire.
It took until 77 minutes, however, to get their third with a fine 20 yard strike from young centre half Ryan Jones.
Sam Jones completed his hat-trick on 84 minutes when he beat Ben Jones in a 50/50 to walk the ball in - and he soon got his fourth goal of the game in the dying minutes when he rounded the keeper again to slot the ball home.
Elsewhere goals from Adam Griffiths and Ryan Jenkins earned Rhos Aelwyd a 2-0 success over Mochdre Sports.
Conner Kendrick handed Cefn Albion a half-time lead at Conwy Borough, but the hosts hit back well to triumph 2-1, with goals from Corrig McGonigle and Jamie Roberts in the second period.
Llanrug United prevailed 5-2 at Llanidloes Town in extra time, with goals from Alan Mark Owen, David Noel Williams, Luke Phillips and Jon Sadler, with a brace.
Two goals down against their experienced visitors, the Daffs hit back with excellent strikes by George Clarke and substitute Josh Matthews, with their leveller coming five minutes from time, to take tie into the extra period.
Shaun Tinsley’s extra time decider put Buckley through 2-1 against FC Nomads. Jake Roberts also struck for Bucks, Danny Wynne for the visitors.
Llanfair United will fly the flag for the Spar Mid Wales League after beating Corwen 3-2 in extra time, with goals by Paul Griffiths, Josh Astley and Lloyd Cornish with the winner. Scott Evans scored two replies, including a penalty.
Berriew bowed out with a 1-0 defeat to Brymbo, Zak Clarke netting the winner in the second period of extra time.
