ABERYSTWYTH Town Ladies maintained winning ways as they booked their place in the semi-finals on the Central Wales Cup with a 2-0 win at rivals Newcastle Emlyn on Wednesday evening.

The Seasiders will go to take on Ceredigion League side Felinfach in the last four of the competition, whilst Llanfair United will play hosts to Aberystwyth University in the other half of the draw.

Newcastle Emlyn had started off the stronger side, with majority of the possession in the first 30 minutes, but they failed to create any scoring opportunities, due mainly to a solid Aber defence.

Aber’s Katie White struck a wonder volley into the top right corner in the 22nd minute, only for it to be ruled offside, and the Seasiders continued to create good scoring opportunities.

Ffiona Evans and Ffion Wyn Roberts both went close to scoring, before the visitors broke the deadlock on 40 minutes.

Gabi Hughes struck a cross-shot and the ball was deflected into the net, to put the Seasiders in front at the interval.

There were chances at both ends in the second half, but the win was eventually sealed 10 minutes from time.

Aber were awarded a penalty for a foul on skipper Ffiona Evans and Tania Wylde stepped up to slot the ball home.

It capped a superb week for the Seasiders after they leapfrogged above Rhyl and Prestatyn in the Women’s Welsh Premier League on Sunday.

Aber are now one of three teams on 10 points in mid-table, following their 3-1 success at Belle Vue.

Two goals in the first 10 minutes from Gabi Hughes and Naomi Evans set them on their way, before Hughes added a third goal before the interval.

Ashleigh Mills pulled a goal back for Rhyl in the second half, but the Seasiders held firm for their third league win of the season.
