BALA Town are looking to sign off the first phase of their Dafabet Welsh Premier League on a high against top three rivals MBi Llandundno at Maes Tegid on Saturday (ko 5.15pm).
The two sides are likely to be the main contenders for the second qualifying spot for Europe this season, and Colin Caton’s men will be determined to maintain second position behind runaway leaders The New Saints,
Bala staged a thrilling comeback last weekend as they hit back from being two goals down to beat Haverfordwest County 3-2 at Airbus UK Broughton’s ground.
In a game switched from a waterlogged Maes Tegid to Airbus UK Broughton’s ground, the Lakesiders took their number of wins into double figures courtesy of a Mike Hayes strike, a Sam Rodon own goal and Ian Sheridan’s winner.
"Overall, we deserved to win, but it was not a good start, and our attitude was not good enough in the first half," said team manager Steve O’Shaughnessy.
"To be fair to the team though, they came out well in the second half, and the lads were superb."
The win lifted Bala one point ahead of Alan Morgan’s Llandudno side, who have had a very impressive campaign their debut season in the Welsh Premier.
In the reverse fixture, an injury hit Bala were lucky to come away with a point in a thrilling 0-0 draw - but with Bala are hoping to be close to full fitness this weekend.
John Irving returns after his injury, and Ryan Valentine and Rob Pearson are both close to returns.
The Seasiders, meanwhile, have been in fine form, but they haven’t played since New Year’s Day, when they won 3-0 against Bangor City in front of the Sgorio cameras.
Marc Williams is the joint top scorer in the league, with 14 goals in 21 games.
The team, however, has been dealt a blow with the news that striker Marc Evans, who only rejoined the club this week, is likely to be ruled out for the rest of the season.
The club doctor has confirmed that Evans has sustained a knee injury while playing with Melville in New Zealand, after an MRI scan revealed some damage that will keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.
"It’s a massive blow for us," says Seasiders’ manager Alan Morgan. "We need all of our lads 100 per cent fit for the rest of the season. and now we are unlikely to have Marc who brings real quality to our group.
"He’s sustained a knee injury according to the club’s doctors. It’s always a fine line with knee injuries and we’re not going to rush him back, he will be given time."
