BALA TOWN’s perfect home record continued as they beat Llandudno 2-1 at Maes Tegid to move up to fourth place in the JD Welsh Premier League.
Colin Caton’s men opened up a two goal lead through Stuart J Jones eight minutes before half-time, and a fine strike from Henry Jones on the hour.
Their determined visitors battled to the end, however, and when Alfons Fosu-Mensah came off the bench to score an 86th minute reply, Bala had to hold firm to register their fourth consecutive league win at home.
“They threw the kitchen sink at us in the end, but the game should have been dead a buried,” said Caton. “But maybe that’s me being a bit critical.
“We would have taken 2-1 at start of the game, and it’s now four wins out of four at home for us this season.
“We did make things a bit harder than they should have been, but I was really happy with the performance - the heart, endeavour and intensity.
“Llandudno had quite a bit of possession, but I thought we created a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and scored a great second goal. But we should have got a third, and we then gave a stupid goal away defensively.”
Centre half Stuart J Jones headed an early chance over from a corner kick, and Nathan Burke pulled his low shot wide from the edge of the 18 yard box as Bala made a bright start the game.
At the other end Mark Connolly headed wide from Zyaac Edwards’ cross, and the former Lakesider also side-footed wide from six yards out.
The Lakesiders were seeing plenty of the ball, and a scramble in the box saw Steven Tames’ effort denied by a last-ditch tackle from Edwards.
Their perseverance paid off on 36 minutes when a corner pinged around the six yard area before arriving to Stuart J Jones, who bundled the ball home from around three yards out.
Bala looked to add to their tally in the second half, and Henry Jones released Tames, who danced around the defender, but saw his chance saved.
A cross from Tames missed Nathan Burke by inches and arrived to Evan Horwood unmarked, but he was unable to get enough power on his strike.
Then, immediately after his introduction off the bench, Ian Sheridan broke downfield and put a superb ball into the path of Henry Jones, who rocketed home from seven yards out.
Andrew Burns’ cross-field ball picked out Jones, who fired wide, and Jones should have made it 3-0 on 73 minutes when he weaved through the defence, but he failed to capitalise.
Tames and Sheridan both had chances blocked, but with four minutes left, Alfons Fosu-Mensah halved the deficit to set up another nervy finish.
Dudno piled on the pressure in the last few minutes, but Bala’s defence stood firm to secure all three points.
