BALA Town manager Colin Caton has continued to shape his squad for the 2018/19 season with the addition of talented right back Andrew Burns.
The 24 year-old has joined the Lakesiders from Tamworth, following his release from the club last week, and he will join a new-look Bala squad ahead of their forthcoming Europa League ties.
Burns, who was born in Ireland, started his career at Bolton Wanderers before joining Bradford City in 2011. A move to Dagenham and Redbridge followed, prior to signing for Barrow in 2013, where he was voted as Player of the Season at Holker Street as part of the promotion winning side in 2014/15.
Andy Morrell signed the defender in 2015 and he spent three seasons at Tamworth, making 136 appearances.
Burns becomes the fourth addition of the summer transfer window for Bala.
Centre half Anthony Miley has also put pen to paper for the Lakesiders, after joining from relegated Bangor City. The 25 year-old spent five years with the Citizens, having also had spells at Bootle, Conwy and Colwyn Bay.
He made 28 starts for the Bangor side that finished runners-up to TNS last season, and made 122 starting appearances in the Welsh Premier League.
Bala Town have also signed striker Steven Tames from Witton Albion. The 26 year old centre forward has a prolific goalscoring record, with 49 goals in 90 matches for the Albion.
Hailing from Liverpool, Steven started out at Prescot Cables and has various stints at Southport, Hyde, Vauxhall Motors, Warrington and Stalybridge, before joining Witton in October 2016.
Meanwhile, returning to Maes Tegid is defender Sean Smith, who joins the Lakesiders from Connah’s Quay.
The left back previously spent one season in 2014/15 at Maes Tegid where he made 37 starts for the Lakesiders.
Smith had started out at Wrexham, before joining Quay on loan in 2015, and after spending a year at Bala, he then rejoined the Nomads, making 104 appearances in all competitions.
The Lakesiders have revealed that Evan Horwood, Nathan Burke, Stuart J Jones, Mike Hayes, Chris Venables, Ashley Morris, Stuart Jones, Rob Pearson and Kieran Smith have all penned new deals for the Maes Tegid club.
Amongst those leaving the club, however, is right back John Disney, who has signed for Connah’s Quay.
Disney, who made 12 appearances for Bala after joining in January, struggled with travelling to training and matchdays from the Manchester area.
Also leavng the club is is Jordan Evans, who has signed for Cefn Druids.
Evans joined Bala last season from Wrexham, making 29 starts and scoring five goals, including the Lakesiders’ 2017 Welsh Cup Final triumph.
Glenn Rule, who started 18 games last season will be joining Stalybridge Celtic, whilst Lewis Short was offered terms with the Lakesiders, but he has decided to move on to pastures new.
Andrai Jones, Lee Owens, David Thompson and Les Davies have also left the Club during the summer.
Meanwhile Bala’s possible Europa League opponents have been finalised.
Seven teams are in the unseeded preliminary round draw, but as Bala and Cefn Druids can’t face each other, there are a possible six teams to face.
Those potential opponents include Sant Julia (Andorra), KI Klaksvik (Faroe Islands), St Josephs (Gibraltar), Engordany (Andorra), Prishtina (Kosovo) and Tre Fiori (San Marino).
The draw for the preliminary round will be held on Tuesday, 12 June, with the first leg to be played on Thursday, 28 June and the second on 5 July.
