BALA Town manager Colin Caton has bolstered his Welsh Premier League squad with the signing of talented midfielder Hyuga Tanner.

Tanner joins the Lakesiders as a free agent following his release from Bolton Wanderers over the summer.

The central midfielder moved from Australia when he was 14 when he was picked up by Blackburn Rovers’ Academy.

Now 20 years old, he has represented Australia at youth level, and has been training with the Lakesiders for several weeks, before putting pen to paper.

“Hyuga has been training with us for 10 weeks and has been very impressive," commented Caton this week."He’s recently returned from a trial in Japan too. He is looking to get back into the full time game, and we hope we can help him to do that. He is a central midfielder and a very good addition.”Tanner quit Wanderers last summer because the transfer embargo left him starved of opportunities. The former Blackburn Rovers youngster was signed at the start of the season, but the EFL stated categorically they could not be used for first-team games.Wanderers have been limited to a 23-man quota in League One and the league rejected an attempt to promote another young forward, Jeff King, earlier this month.Tanner said that without guarantees of regular game-time next season he would have to move on.“Unfortunately, the embargo has stopped me playing first-team football and I need to be out there getting some first-team experience,” he said.“So at the end of this season I was looking to go elsewhere and push for first-team action as the embargo doesn’t seem to be getting lifted anytime.“I wanted to find that here in the UK, because I love playing here.”Tanner had been a regular in David Lee’s Bolton development squad and originally left his native Sydney at the age of 14 to join Blackburn’s Academy.Tanner will wear the number 14 shirt for the Lakesiders.Click on the link below for the full preview of Bala Town's Welsh Cup tie against Aberystwyth.
