BALA Town will host Alloa Athletic in the fourth round of the Irn-Bru Scottish League Cup, whilst Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints have been handed a trip to Forfar Athletic.
The draw was made by former Welsh international and Celtic striker John Hartson and Scottish football supporter Michael Douglas at Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre.
Bala’s opponents Alloa Athletic play in the third tier of Scottish football, and are sitting on top of Ladbrokes League One after winning all four matches.
Meanwhile Forfar Athletic, who will travel to face the Saints, have also made a very promising start to their season in the fourth tier, also with four wins out of four in the Scottish Ladbrokes League Two.
Rangers won the trophy last season, before achieving promotion to the Scottish Premiership this season.
All ties will be played on the weekend of October 8/9, and one of the matches involving a Welsh Premier club will be screened live on S4C.
This season the Scottish Professional Football League has welcomed last season’s domestic champions and runners-up from Wales and Northern Ireland to the Irn Bru Scottish League Cup.
In this new initiative, the Welsh Premier duo will receive at least £5,750 for taking part in the fourth round.
The New Saints a further allowance of £4,000 for travelling to another country.
The Northern Ireland representatives are Crusaders and Linfield, and a quarter-final place will be the prize for the winners of each tie.
The fourth round draw in full: Bala Town v Alloa Athletic; Forfar Athletic v The New Saints; Crusaders v Livingston; Queen of the South v Linfield; Hibernian v St Mirren; Dunfermline Athletic v Queens Park; Ayr United v Falkirk; Stranraer v Dundee United.
