BALA Town made it four wins in a row at South Liverpool as they continue their preparations ahead of the start of the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

Goals from Stuart Jones, a trialist and David Thompson were enough for the win despite the Lakesiders conceding a clumsy penalty to their Merseyside hosts.

In what was a comfortable win, Bala started off on the front foot with Nathan Burke causing the South defence trouble from the off

One of three trialists in the Bala starting 11, the attacker who would later grab a goal, fired wide of the post early on following some brilliant link-up play between Thompson and Chris Venables.

Burke had the ball in the net after 13 minutes, but the midfielder was deemed to have strayed offside.

After 20 minutes of play, Town took the lead when a corner was pinged into the area finding an unmarked Stuart Jones who headed the ball into the top right-hand corner.

Even though Bala were leading, South were having plenty of possession and could have drawn level if any of a number of players had managed to get a touch on a freekick that fizzed across the face of goal.

They grabbed the equaliser soon after though as a clumsy Bala challenge saw the referee award a penalty that was coolly put home.

A break by Thompson saw him lob the keeper but his chance went just over the bar before a half volley on the turn by the trialist blazed over the crossbar as the half-time whistle was blown.

South Liverpool fatigued in the second half and on 50 minutes, Bala re-took the lead with the trialist finally getting his goal with a calm finish.

The Lakesiders continued to pressure a dogged South defence with Jones’ header brushing the top of the crossbar following a Thompson freekick.

Conall Murtagh fired over the bar from range, Anthony Stephens’ shot went wide from Thompson’s delivery and Jamie Crowther had an opportunity scrambled clear following a melee in the six yard box.

Town were camped in South’s half for the majority of the period as a backheel attempt by Venables was hacked away before another freekick by Stephens curled narrowly wide from 25 yards.

The Lakesiders did add a third though when Thompson waltzed through the defence in injury time to put the ball in the back of the net after his initial effort was blocked.
