BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United were punished by four late goals as Welsh Alliance division one title favourites Glantraeth powered to a flattering 5-1 away win at Wern Mynach.

With the scoreline at 1-1 up to the last quarter-of-an-hour, Barmouth’s goalkeeper Adam Walters was suddenly beaten four times in quick succession, including from two penalties.

During the opening half, Barmouth had held their own as Elwyn Edwards and Carwyn Jones stood out in the defensive resistance, and both teams rued shots against the woodwork.

Glantraeth’s overdue lead came on 51 minutes from Kieron Jeffreys, but the hosts were soon level through Dave Inglis, after a free-kick on 53.

Barmouth continued as equals until the 76th minute, before Darren Gowans and then a Corrig McGonigle hat-trick sealed the points for the visitors.

Now on 30 goals for the season, McGonigle used his head on 82 minutes and followed up by tucking away two penalties, awarded by referee Mark James, on 87 and 90, after he had been tripped in the home box.

Penrhyndeudraeth were meanwhile left to rue missed chances in a 3-2 defeat at Greenfield, with Shaun Beck netting their winner on 87 minutes.

The Deesiders had caught Penrhyn off guard with their third minute opener from Gareth Henley, but the visitors responded with chances falling to Meilir Williams and Jack Jones.

Williams could have achieved a hat-trick before the break, whereas Jones was denied by a goal-line clearance.

Penrhyn then came good early in the second half, with Tom Smith equalising on 47 minutes, after an exchange with Williams, and Steve Jones then let rip with a 25-yard strike on 55.

Further Penrhyn raids saw Steve Jones and Alan Jones miscue, before Greenfield’s secured the points through Henley again on 68 minutes and then cruelly Beck right at the end.

Pwllheli’s match at Llandudno Junction was postponed, because the Flyover pitch was unplayable. Also off was Llanrug United v Glan Conwy.

Llanberis bounced back after a couple of defeats to Penrhyndeudraeth in recent weeks, with a 3-1 result over Nantlle Vale in a bottom-five contest.

Gerald Laidlaw struck early for the Ffordd Padarn hosts, after just five minutes, Rhys Parry doubled the lead close to half-time and the third goal followed from Cai McDonald on 73, with Aaron Hughes replying on 70.

Llandyrnog and Abergele Town drew 1-1, after goals from the visitors’ Anthony Colquity on 71 minutes and the hosts’ Mark Roberts after 82.

Llangefni Town are the Welsh Alliance’s sole survivors in the FAW Trophy’s quarter-finals, and they got there in tremendous style, as 10-0 conquerors against St Asaph City.

A goal from Paul Rowlands inside two minutes was followed by a hat-trick by Craig Roberts, doubles by Jack Williams and Sion Pritchard, and singles by Matt Jones and Iwan Jones.

Trearddur Bay were stunned by a 2-1 home defeat to Corwen, with Thomas Williams netting the winning goals on 40 and 51 minutes, whilst Sion Roberts conceded an own goal.

Llanrwst lost 2-1 to Chirk AAA, with the hosts’ goal from Callum Parry on 79 minutes not being enough in response to a Corey Taylor own-goal on 41 and Adam Williams on 60.
