IT was a satisfying homecoming for the former Blaenau Ffestiniog player Rob Daniels as he scored twice for Llanllyfni in their thrilling 4-3 win in the Take Stock Van Hire League Cup - and his side will meet Pentraeth in the next round.
This match could have gone either way as both sides created many chances over the 90 minutes, despite both teams being without a considerable amount of their first team players due to unavailability.
The first 10 minutes were even, and the nearest they came to an opening goal was on 15 minutes when home striker Tom Williams went through, but his final shotwas deflected onto a post and cleared.
The stalemate was finally broken on 20 minutes as Rob Daniels coolly scored, giving keeper Aron Hughes no chance.
Play went from end to end, with the hosts creating good chances before they were finally rewarded on 35 minutes - with player-boss Julian Jeffrey heading the equaliser from a right wing corner.
The opening half ended all square, but just five minutes into the second half the visiting team regained their advantage when Gavin Davies slotted home from what looked to be an offside position.
That lead stood for just four minutes as the impressive Geraint Edwards then scored to bring the sides level again.
Julian Jeffrey had a fine effort saved by keeper Marc Jones, and Gareth Roberts and Tom Williams combined well, but the latter’s effort went wide of the target.
With the home side on attack, the visitors stole the ball and sent their substitute Chris Carey clear on the home goal, but his final effort was saved by Hughes.
For a while after Blaenau had the better of the scoring chances as Geraint Edwards and Gareth Roberts went close, before Edwards gave his side the lead for the first time in the match on 68 minutes.
That lead only lasted a minute, however, as Rob Daniels equalised for 3-3.
With extra time looming, up came Gavin Davies to score what proved to be the match winner with five minutes left.
The Amateurs created a late chance for Edwards, but it wasn’t to be in what had been an encouraging performance from the home side, who now have a tough away match at Meliden this Saturday.
