CHARLIE Parr fired a last-gasp equaliser for Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League leaders Bont, to secure a 1-1 draw with third-placed Bow Street Reserves in their match at Parc Pantyfedwen last Saturday.

Trailing for most of the game to Dean Evans’ first half strike, the hosts finally made their pressure count in injury time, to move one point clear of local rivals Tregaron Turfs at the top.

The hosts, who were a little stretched with key players missing, had pinned the Magpies into their own half in the first 10 minutes, but they couldn’t convert the few chances they created.

They were punished when the ever reliable Dean Evans found space in the penalty box, and he converted well to put the visitors into the lead.

Bont continued to attack well, without creating clear chances in the final third, and at the other end goalkeeper Trevor Jenkins brilliantly turned a Nicky Smith free kick around a post.

The second half started well, with Bow Street holding onto the lead and trying to catch Bont on the break, and for long periods the away side were pinned in their own half - but chance after chance couldn’t be converted.

Some brave defending denied the leaders an equaliser, until the second minute of injury time, when Parr scored with his first goal for the club.

A cleared corner fell to him on the edge of the penalty box and he volleyed into the bottom corner, to maintain Bont’s unbeaten league record.

In division two, Penparcau moved level on points with leaders Llanon, with a game in hand, as they eased to a 6-1 win over Llanilar Reserves - a week after beating their senior team in the Cambrian Tyres League Cup.

With players out injured, and some away, Penparcau had only 12 members available, including joint managers Andy Evans and Darren Thomas.

Penparcau, however, made a promising start, with Warren Sedgwick coming close in the very first minute.

Llanilar took the lead on the 20th minute with a header at the back post, but from the kick-off Penparcau pressed hard and from a corner youngster Rhys Wynne Davies fired home his first senior goal for Arky.

The goal gave Penparcau confidence and added pressure was rewarded when the experienced Sedgwick scored a second before the interval.

The second half was dominated by Penparcau, and Ben Davies capitalised with two well taken goals, whilst Sedgwick added another two goals to complete a well-taken hat-trick.

Ben Holt meanwhile fired a hat-trick as Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves beat Padarn Reserves 5-1 in the Second Division Trophy. Dave Jenkins and Iwan Jones also scored, whilst Alex Jones got Padarn’s consolation.
