RYAN Davies scored a hat-trick for Borth United, but a last minute equaliser by Mark Proctor meant that they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a remarkable 5-5 draw with Waterloo Rovers in the MMP Mid Wales League division two.
The morning rain gave way to a bright afternoon and on a good playing surface, it was the visitors who made an immediate impact with Andrew Gwilt scoring with a header after just four minutes.
The Welshpool side held the upper hand as the opening half progressed, but Borth equalised on 20 minutes when Gethin ap Dafydd, who impressed on his debut for Borth, squared the ball for Ryan Davies to score with a shot over the keeper’s head.
Within three minutes, Borth had taken the lead as Guto Huws latched onto a through ball to fire home with a low shot.
The visitors soon replied, however, with Andrew Gwilt scoring through a melee of players for the equaliser, and as half time neared the visitors led again as Charlie Proctor slid the ball passed keeper Hefin Hopkins for a 3-2 lead at the interval.
Borth came out for the second half in determined mood, and following good wing play from Gethin ap Dafydd, his ball into the box was met by Ryan Davies to score with a left footed shot for 3-3.
The goals kept coming, with Rovers’ Chris Proctor scoring with a superb header from a corner kick for the visitors to again lead 4-3, but Borth soon replied as Ryan Davies’ free kick was squared for James Davies to score with a low shot.
With 10 minutes remaining, Guto Huws’ fine build play allowed Ryan Davies to score for Borth with a close range finish, for his well deserved hat-trick.
Waterloo pressed forward in numbers, but when Gethin ap Dafydd sprang the visitors’ defence he saw his chip saved.
To their credit, Waterloo didn’t give up and their perseverance was rewarded in the last minute when Mark Proctor scoring with a bullet header from a corner kick to earn them a share of the spoils.
Elsewhere in division two, goals from Jon Sutton and Kieran Jones earned Dolgellau a 2-1 home win over Presteigne, with Ewan Rhodes netting for the visitors.
Montgomery Town maintained their unbeaten league run as another hat-trick for Tom Evans and a Jack Williams goal earned them a 4-2 away success against Rhayader Town, with Joe Wozencraft and Jamie Evans scoring for the home side.
Four Crosses won 4-1 on the road at Brecon Northcote, courtesy of goals from the in-form Jake Edwards, a Simon Griffiths goal, and a Jordan Gerrard penalty. Guy Williams got a goal for the home side.
Goals by Huw McGrath and Tommy Jones earned Abermule a 2-1 win over Hay St Mary’s, who were leading at the half-time break through a Jack Biggs penalty, whilst Dyffryn Banw hit back from two goals down at half-time to beat Newbridge 3-2, with goals from Alun Williams, an own goal and Jamie Huxley.
