BOW STREET Reserves took the derby spoils in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one with an emphatic 7-1 in over Talybont.
The Magpies scored all seven goals in the first half as they climbed above Tregaron Turfs into second place in the table, to within three points of leaders Bont.
Talybont showed great character to stop the Magpies scoring second half and a Ben Byrne penalty offered the consolation of at least ‘winning’ the second half.
A Tom Evans hat-trick, a Tom Wills brace, a Gethin Ap Dafydd goal and an own goal sealed the win.
Llanilar shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Penrhyncoch Reserves, after a Ryan Hopkins free kick had given the hosts an interval lead.
Penrhyn, however, hit back with a free kick of their own in the second half by Paul Keegan, to earn a point.
The scheduled matches between Borth United Reserves and Aber University Reserves, and Machynlleth Reserves and Padarn Reserves were postponed, as was the division two match beween Tywyn Reserves and Llanilar Reserves.
In the Second Division Trophy, Padarn United Reserves notched an excellent 3-1 win over Llanon, courtesy of goals from Billy Williams, Boboiciov Radu and James ‘Mitro’ Graham.
Llanon felt they weren’t at our best on the day, but they still battled on despite going down to nine men, with Tom Dudley for scoring his first goal for the club.
EMRYS MORGAN CUP
FORMER winners St Dogmaels were left scratching their heads at how they had lost their Emrys Morgan Cup third round tie with a 1-0 defeat to Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League side Tregaron Turfs.
The Saints created a hatful of chances, including a late penalty from midfielder Rhys Jones, but the visitors to their credit rode their luck and scored the only goal.
“I have never seen a side dominate a game so much and lose,” said Saints boss Steve Williams. “ I’m very disappointed as some of our chances were harder to miss than score, but fair play to their keeper as he was outstanding and good luck to them in the next round of the competition.”
The Turfs weathered the early onslaught and made the breakthrough in the 35th minute when in-form striker Carwyn Earey netted, after the home side had missed a number of golden opportunities.
The Saints dominated for much of the remaining hour and were gifted one great chance of levelling the game with just four minutes to go, but the normally reliable Rhys Jones saw his spot kick go wide.
Ffostrasol who last won this competition back in 1975, meanwhile coasted through with a convincing 6-0 win over Presteigne Reserves at Parc Troedrhiw, with the hero of the hour for the Wanderers being striker Cian Edwards, who bagged a hat-trick.
Meanwhile the tie between Cilgerran Rovers and Penparcau was called off as the visitors conceded the game, whilst the tie between Aberdyfi and Felinfach was postponed because of the heavy snow.
• Holders Newcastle Emlyn came through for a 4-0 win in the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup against second division outfit Llanboidy at Parc Emlyn, although Owain Thomas and his side were forced to work very hard for their victory.
Dion Phillips Jake Kelly, Craig Gordon and Adrian Hazelby had chances, before the deadlock was broken on the half hour.
Hazelby was brought down in the box and John Curran slotted home the penalty.
The second half was more of the same and with 20 minutes to go defender Oliver Evans headed home a cross from full back Matthew Goodman to double the lead.
Curran made it 3-0 with a superb free kick, and defender George Lowry secured the win with the fourth goal of the game.
