BOW STREET picked up another win at Cae Piod to remain on the tails of the leading pack in the Spar Mid Wales League division one with an entertaining 4-3 win over Tywyn/Bryncrug.

A late Marc Gornall penalty sealed another three points for the Magpies, to move within three points of third-placed Llanfair United, with three games in hand.

Andrew Gittins, Tom Evans and Llion Rhys Jenkins also found the net for in-form Bow Street, who continued where they left off, after their superb win over leaders Welshpool Town a fortnight ago.

“It might have been a great for spectators for supporters, but for us as a management team, that was hard going,” admitted Bow Street manager Barry Williams.

“We switched off at set pieces after half time, and this put us under enormous pressure. I’m proud of the way the boys fought back and delighted to get the win.”

After an even first half hour, Andrew Gittins opened the scoring when he superbly converted in the penalty area, following some good work by Tom Evans.

The roles were reversed soon after as Gittins set up Evans to double the lead, but, just on half-time, Tywyn hit back to halve the deficit with a Dave Jenkins goal.

Early in the second half, Tywyn turned the tables as two goals from corners put the visiting team 3-2 up, with Aston Heath and Joseph Bell both finding the back of the net, having escaped their markers.

For a while it looked as if Tywyn would add to their lead, but the home side got back into the game in the last 20 minutes.

Llion Jenkins scored the equaliser with 15 minutes left and, five minutes later, Tom Evans was fouled in the penalty area, and Gornall coolly slotted the ball home.

Both sides had opportunities in a final frantic few minutes, but the home side’s players and supporters were both relieved and delighted to hear the final whistle.

In their toughest match of the season so far, Borth United visited Welshpool and they succumbed to an emphatic 8-1 defeat.

Will Thomas put the hosts ahead within a minute, and he doubled the score on 27 minutes as the Lilywhites took charge.

The hosts threatened to increase the score as the half progressed, but Borth held on to a 2-0 deficit at the interval.

Borth made a positive start to the second half and pulled a goal back with Ryan Edwards scoring with a low drive, but the hosts regained control as Adam Davies scored on 50 minutes and the prolific Will Thomas completed a well-taken hat-trick when he netted with a 57th minute strike.

Borth were was unable to contain the rampant Thomas, and he went on to score three more goals, to complete a stunning double hat-trick, before being subbed.

To complete the visitors’ misery, Adam Davies scored his second goal on 88 minutes as the hosts remained five points clear of Llanrhaeadr at the top of the table.

Aberaeron came through for a 3-1 home win, but they had to battle all the way against a Kerry side that never gave up.

The home pitch was in remarkable condition considering all the heavy overnight rain, and the game had started brightly, with Aberaeron having the upper-hand.

Last season’s division two champions, however, began to assert themselves and when Max McLaughlin’s free kick was driven low, a deflection saw the ball creep in, with Barry Edwards wrong-footed.

The visitors looked to be coping with Aberaeron’s long-ball tactics, but when Liam Jaques picked up the ball deep, he ran at the defence and hit a low 25 yard strike that was too powerful for the visiting keeper and found its way into the net.

After the break, Aberaeron started to play some neat and they were rewarded when a cross from Liam Jaques found Mikey Gornall, whose shot was deflected into the net to take a hard-earned lead.

Kerry, however, remained in the game until a goal kick by Edwards was flicked on and young substitute Ianto Evans released the predatory Mattie Davies, who beat the keeper with a good finish for 3-1.

Second-placed Llanrhaeadr proved too strong for Churchstoke as they notched a 4-1 win to stay within five points of Welshpool, with goals from Iwan Matthews, Tom Evans, Adam Burgess and Dan Kelly.

Joe Haycock scored for Churchstoke, who slipped to a seventh league defeat.

Peter Rees meanwhile scored a well-taken hat-trick as Carno emerged as comfortable 5-0 winners against basement side Machynlleth side, with Scott Williams and Jack Petrie also scoring for the Greens, who were 3-0 ahead at the interval.
