RYAN Davies and Clive Morgan both scored twice as Borth United maintained their momentum with a convincing 6-2 win over Presteigne at Uppingham Fields.

Looking to build on a 6-2 win over Machynlleth in the Welsh Cup the previous weekend, Borth again started brightly, and the Crows made the perfect start as Olly Herschel’s goal bound shot from 30 yards out wasn’t properly dealt with by the defence and the alert Morgan was on hand to fire the opener with a low shot.

Within two minutes, Borth increased their lead as a poor clearance from the keeper allowed Bryn McGilligan Oliver to chip the ball into the net from 25 yards.

The visitors responded well, however, and after an infringement in the penalty area Tom Lewis made no mistake to score from the spot, and though Presteigne held the upper hand as the half progressed Borth held on to lead 2-1 at half-time.

Within two minutes of the break Borth restored their two goal lead, however, as Clive Morgan scored with a superbly taken free kick, and minutes later a Dion Ellis-Clark cross was met by Gethin ap Dafydd to score with a close in header.

In the last 10 minutes an Ellis-Clark through ball allowed Ryan Davies to round the keeper to score, and within two minutes Davies scored his second goal when latching on to a Josh Ferreira pass to slide the ball under the advancing keeper.

Presteigne had the final say in an entertaining match as Lewis Jones broke through to slot home with a low shot, but it was a convincing win for the home side.

Penparcau produced another dominant display to make it five wins from as many matches with a 4-0 win over Churchstoke.

Lee Jones and Andrew Gittens both scored twice for last season’s Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League champions, who are three points clear of second-placed Newbridge, with a game in hand.

Abermule notched an emphatic 10-2 win over struggling Knighton Town, with Jack Jarman leading the way with four goals, whilst Lyndon Clayton netted a hat-trick, and Adam Williams, Harry Jones and an own goal completed their tally. Dan Petrie and Brian White scored consolation goals for the visiting team.

Knighton, who have lost their opening six matches in division two this season, have confirmed that John Haycox has been appointed as the first team manager.
