CRANNOG faced a difficult task on the road against Aberaeron Reserves, with five regular players missing, but Rhydian Morgan’s side came through to win 4-2, for their fourth win on the bounce in the Costcutter Ceredigion Division One.
Former Cardigan Town playmaker Rhys Davies opened the scoring for on 16 minutes with a well struck shot, and his side had chances to have been well ahead by the half-time break.
Front runner Robbie Evans put the Llangrannog outfit further ahead on the hour when he scored with a free header from corner, but a defensive lapse let in Lamin Manjang, and he took full advantage to make it 2-1.
Things got worse for the visitors soon afterwards when they conceded a penalty, and this was well taken by Sam Brammeld to level the scores.
Crannog, however, sealed their victory with two quick-fire goals to kill the game off through Brynley Morris and another free header from Evans.
“We made it hard for ourselves as we missed several good chances and conceded two very soft goals, but it was a good win nonetheless in the circumstances,” said Morgan, whose side will look to maintain their perfect record at Lampeter on Saturday.
St Dogmaels continued to set the pace at the top of division one as they made it five wins from five games this season, with an emphatic 10-1 scoreline against Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw - and the points were in the bag at the break as they led 5-1.
Peter Almond and Rhys Jones both scored twice for the Saints and Chris Morgan once in a dominant opening half, with Josh Kelly netting a reply.
Louis Harding went on to bag a quick-fire hat-trick in the second half, before Jones completed his treble, and there was a goal for Jack Thomas.
Two goals from teenage front runner Llion Williams meanwhile saw Cardigan Town bounce back to winning ways with a 3-1 scoreline against Felinfach at the King George field.
Hard working midfielder Tom Gardiner was also on target for the home team, whilst Kieron Boyes netted the solitary reply goal for Felinfach.
Llandysul could count themselves a touch fortunate to have secured a 2-1 win at Tir Y Dref, as Llanboidy felt they deserved at least a point on the strength of their overall performance.
The hosts took the lead when Ellis Williams fired home, but Llandysul hit back to take the spoils through Chris Harris and Richard Evans.
Costcutter Ceredigion Division Two
DEWI Stars got used to life in the Costcutter Ceredigion League division two with a hard fought 1-1 draw against a strong Aberporth.
The Stars have had to rebuild their team after losing so many players to rival clubs, and with others leaving for University their future was in jeopardy in July.
They have signed some promising 16-17 year-olds, and three made their debuts on Saturday, namely Iestyn Edwards, Guto Green and Rhys Evans, making it seven under 18s in the squad.
Aberporth struck first when Dan Nicholl capitalised on a defensive slip to run through from the halfway line and pick his spot.
The Stars stuck to their task and dominated most of the second half, but they could only breach a well marshalled home defence once when Siencyn Jones crossed for Ifan Thomas to head powerfully head in.
Maesglas overcame the challenge of rivals St Dogmaels Reserves to win 4-0.
The Blues, who included new signing Kyle Chillery, struck first when a pin-point ball over the top from former Saint Marcus Dean found Johnny Rees, and his cross fell nicely to Arron Eldridge to finish clinically.
Myles Harrison then doubled the lead from close range, and the Blues shuffled the pack by bringing on subs Garfield Davies and 16 year old Dylan Karlikiuc.
Both made an immediate impact as Davies put Eldridge away, and his cross was met by Karlikiuc to make it 3-0 with his first touch. Dean then completed the scoring late on when he headed home from a corner.
A Steffan Rhys Evans hat- trick helped steer Ffostrasol Reserves to a comfortable 5-1 win over their Llandysul counterparts. Gethin Thomas and Owain Patterson also scored for Wanderers.
Costcutter Ceredigion Division Three
FOUR goals from Tom Willoughby helped Lampeter Town Reserves cruise to an 8-0 success over Felinfach Reserves in the Costcutter Ceredigion League division three.
First team striker Luke Lovell added a brace, and there was one apiece for Bryn Jones and Leighton Rees.
At Cae Dandre Llanboidy Reserves secured their first points with a 6-2 victory over Maesglas Reserves.
Dafydd Jones led the way with a well taken hat-trick and there were also two for Sam Jackson, and one for Ifan Jones. For the Blues, Barry Jones and Carwyn Edwards were on target.
