CRANNOG reached their second semi-final of the season when they overcame a well organised Llanilar 2-1 in the last eight of the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies.
The Llangrannog outfit, who face Cardigan Town in the semi-finals of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup this week, are looking a good bet for silverware.
This game started at a high pace, with a young and talented Llanilar being well marshalled by the experienced Huw Bonner at centre back, and they worked hard to close down space as early as possible.
The hosts struggled to find their rhythm early on, but there were chances created at either end, with both goal keepers being called upon to make some sharp saves.
After a goalless first half, home manager Dylan Vaughan Evans brought on four substitutes and his team stepped things up to put Llanilar under real pressure.
Against the run of play, however, the visitors hit the upright from distance, and minutes later they took the lead through Ryan Hopkins after a flowing move.
Crannog kept their composure and continued to play good football, however, and with 15 minutes left their dominance was rewarded as a great cross from Mathew Smith was brilliantly controlled and finished by Owen Thomas to square matters.
The Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League side suffered another blow when Bonner had to leave the field with an injury, and Crannog capitalised when Owen Thomas bagged his second goal with a cool finish into the bottom corner.
Llanilar threw everything at their hosts for the final five minutes, but defender Mike Glover and colleagues in the shape of Rhydian Roberts, Huw Reed and goal keeper Rhydian Morgan managed to see their team through into the semi-final.
Crannog will take on the winners of the tie between St Dogmaels and Newcastle Emlyn in the last four, whilst the other semi-final tie between Felinfach and Dolgellau Reserves is scheduled for Tuesday, 14 March at Cae Baker, Penrhyncoch.
The semi-finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup have also been arranged, with Bont to play Berriew Reserves at Latham Park Newtown next Wednesday, 15 March.
The other semi-final tie between Llandysul and Waterloo Rovers Reserves is scheduled to be played at Victoria Avenue, Llanidloes on Wednesday, 22 March.
• RADNOR Valley will face Aberaeron in the quarter-finals of the Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup after they beat visitors Tywyn/Bryncrug 4-2 last weekend.
Joe Price scored a hat-trick, including a penalty, and 17 year-old George Davies also netted, whilst Tywyn’s Nick Williams scored two replies, including a penalty.
The scheduled quarter-final ties between Llanidloes Town and Caersws, and Carno and Rhayader Town, were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
