LLANIDLOES Town consolidated their Christmas number one spot in the MMP Mid Wales League division one with a thrilling 3-2 win over local rivals Caersws at Recreation Ground on Boxing Day.

The Bluebirds had looked in control in front of a bumper crowd as they opened up a two-goal lead at the interval, with goals from Jamie Hyne and Peter Rees.

Five minutes into the second half, however, Caersws were reduced to 10 men when Hyne was shown the red card, and they were made to pay when Ashley Owen crossed for George Clarke to score.

Merv Owen then provided the assist for Gregg Brown to slot home the equalising goal, and the Daffs completed a stunning comeback when Connor Bird fired home with an absolute screamer of a free-kick.

Aberaeron shared the spoils in their goalless Boxing Day draw against fourth-placed Ceredigion rivals Bow Street, in tricky conditions on the windy seafront.

It was a tough point on the road for the Magpies against a determined home side, with neither side able to break the deadlock as both defences remained on top.

Llandrindod Wells moved level on points with second-placed Builth Wells, with two games in hand, as they beat their Radnorshire rivals 2-1 in a hard-fought festive fixture at the Broadway.

After a fairly tight opening half an hour, Llandrindod the deadlock through Robbie Nicholls, but Builth equalised just before the interval through Greg Preece.

The hosts retook the lead through Michael Collister’s left-footed strike into the bottom corner, and they held firm to move above Bow Street into the top three.

Berriew notched a comfortable Boxing Day win as they won 6-0 at Kerry, having taken charge with first half goals from Jonathan Jones, a sublime Joe Haycock free kick, and a George Mitten penalty.

Further goals after the interval from Steffan Rogers, Haycock and Andy Evans ultimately made sure of the points for the visitors at a muddy Dolforgan Park.

• Penparcau were left feeling the Boxing Day blues as their 100 per cent record ended in the Mid Wales League division two with 3-1 defeat at Dyffryn Banw.

Alwyn Jones crossed for Gerallt Evans to head Banw in front inside the first five minutes, but Penparcau levelled in the second half through Steffano Antoniazzi. Alwyn Jones’ superb 66th minute free-kick restored Banw’s lead, and Ollie Higgins sealed their victory in injury time.

Dolgellau and Machynlleth drew 3-3 at Cae Marian, with the hosts having led 3-0, with goals from Jake Jones, Charlie Owen and David Edwards, before goals from Jac Petrie and a Richie Evans double earned the visitors a share of the spoils.

Forden United won 3-1 at Waterloo Rovers with goals by Alex Morgan, with a brace, and Steve Roberts, while Adam Gough netted for the Welshpool hosts.

Jamie Evans scored for Rhayader in a 1-1 draw at home against Newbridge-on-Wye, with Ollie Woods replying, whilst in the other Boxing Day match Knighton recorded a 4-3 away win at Presteigne.
