DESPITE a brave fightback, Llanidloes Town suffered their first defeat of the MMP Mid Wales League division one season when they were edged out 3-2 at home to high-flying Radnor Valley.
After a goalless stalemate, the Daffs found themselves three goals down through a Joey Price brace, including one from the penalty spot, and Jack Williams.
The hosts, who had seen George Clarke’s first half header disallowed for a foul, did hit back through Peter Rees and Connor Bird, but Valley held on to maintain their proud 100 per cent record.
"It could have even different had that goal in the first half not been disallowed," said Llanidloes manager Hugh Clarke.
"But I don’t want to take anything away from Radnor Valley who are a good side, they put their bodies on the line and they have a lot of spark going forward.
"To lose the game is obviously disappointing, but what was pleasing was the way we fought back, and the character we showed after going three goals down."
Radnor Valley had a couple of opportunities to break the deadlock before the break, with Joey Price volleying wide from the edge of the penalty area after a partially cleared corner.
The Goats' talisman also saw a 20 yard free-kick fly wide of the target, but the Daffs always looked threatening when going forward.
Before the break, they had a goal disallowed for a foul when George Clarke headed in an Adam Worton’s free kick, but the Daffs went behind in the third minute of the second period.
The home defence failed to clear a free-kick properly, and Joey Price was on to find the net with a composed finish to put Valley in the driving seat.
The visitors doubled that lead eight minutes when Price was brought down on the left side of the penalty area by Drew Reynolds, and the striker fired his spot kick past Aaron Warwick with aplomb.
The New Radnor men were now playing with great gusto, and they were in dreamland when they netted their third goal of the game in the 63rd minute.
Liam Jones’ teasing cross from out on the right touchline caused some consternation in the home defence, and Jack Williams was on hand to force the ball home from close range.
Llani showed plenty of resolve and produced a rousing fightback, and Peter Rees saw a 20 yard drive turned away by keeper Will Fowden in the 67th minute.
Three minutes later, the former Carno front man pulled a goal back when he fired home from a tight angle, after a good run and throughball from Josh Hartrick.
Hopes of a comeback were raised further in the 84th minute when former Knighton striker Connor Bird forced home from close range, for his eighth goal of the season, to set up a tense finish.
Llani then piled on the pressure in the closing stages, and Dewi Allen headed over as the hosts laid siege, but Valley held firm to maintain their superb start with a sixth straight win.
