Defences remained on top as Pwllheli had to settle for a share of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two points, after figuring in a goalless draw with visitors Llannefydd last weekend.

This fixture brought together the teams in fifth and fourth positions in the table, just outside the promotion spots, with Pwllheli trailing their visitors by three points from the same number of games.

The opening exchanges were dominated by Pwllheli, who were unlucky when Jason Banks slammed a superb shot against the crossbar on 20 minutes, and the Llannefydd goalkeeper had to make some important saves at other times.

The home defence stayed organised, with stalwart Martin Smith prominent aided by an impressive debut by 16-year-old Ryan Griffiths in a central role.

As the second half wore on, though, Llannefydd became the more threatening outfit, with Pwllheli’s defence pressed back and Morgan Parry Jones in the home goal had to be alert at all times. The home keeper made a dramatic double save to deny Nico Clwyd, one of three brothers playing in the visitors’ ranks.

Elsewhere in division two, Aberffraw continued their climb away from the basement position with a solid 4-1 home triumph against Llandudno Amateurs. Steven Jenkins, with a brace, Richard Roberts and Nathan Moore shared the home goals, with Martin Byast replying.

The scheduled division two matches between Kinmel Bay and Gaerwen, Mochdre Sports and Penmaenmawr Phoenix, Pentraeth and Amlwch Town, and Y Felinheli and Gwalchmai were all postponed due to the adverse weather.

In the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Reserves Division, league leaders Colwyn Bay triumphed 5-3 away at St Asaph City, where there were two goals each for Lewys Jones and Harri Gwilym and one from Morgan Ashworth sealed the win.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One

BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs took their chance to play, whilst most of the fixtures in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one were washed out, as they notched a 1-0 at Llandudno Albion.

A 49th minute goal from Meilir Williams proved enough to claim the points, running on to a through ball from Iwan Griffiths and going clear of the home defence, before coolly slotting home.

Gale force winds didn’t help either side and chances were at a premium throughout. After taking the lead, the visitors defended well to secure their much-needed win.

It was their second win there, having won a Cookson Cup tie earlier in the season, with Meilir Williams scoring in that match as well - although Albion had won 4-1 at Blaenau in early January. There was a sending off in injury time, however, as the Amateurs’ Iwan Griffiths was shown a second yellow card.

Another saturated Saturday took its toll on the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance schedule as 15 games were planned in the two divisions and cups, and only five matches survived.

Among the wash-outs was Penrhyndeudraeth’s game at Llanrwst, where the Gwydyr Park pitch was waterlogged. Also off in the top flight were Mynydd Llandygai versus Llanberis and Prestatyn Sports against Llanrug Utd.

Title favourites Holyhead Hotspur were able to play, and they won for the 15th time in 18 outings, by a 2-0 margin over St Asaph City.

Holyhead gained their goals in the second half, both from regular hot-shot Asa Thomas, after 60 and 85 minutes, as the plucky away side, despite being winners only three times to date this season, put up stern resistance.

Thomas has netted 29 goals across all teams and competitions for the season to put Darren Garmey’s side seven points clear at the top, with a 100 per cent home record.

Greenfield and Llandyrnog United drew 1-1 at the Deesiders’ Bagillt Road ground, where a home team goal from Dean Hyland on 46 minutes was nullified by the visitors’ Chris Evans on 80.

The two delayed Barritt Cup second round ties and the Cookson Cup semi-finals were again called off, including Barmouth and Dyffryn United’s tie at Llandudno Junction, after two postponements at Wern Mynach. It is rearranged for this weekend.

Similarly, Bodedern Athletic versus Glan Conwy in the Barritt Cup was postponed, and is listed for this weekend, as well as the Cookson last-four clash involving Nantlle Vale and Denbigh Town.
